"Life is one big transition."

About Dr. Mathews

Like you, I have experienced many major life transitions, ranging from unemployment and care giving, to re-marriage and a new career. Life is full of these transitions, and sometimes they can be painful or scary - even when they are "positive" events. During these times, I learned that with the right support from a trusted source, I could make decisions and take action that presented greater opportunities than I imagined possible during the transition. Now, I help others through these times. Send me an email or call me. We can have a brief conversation to see if I can provide the support you need as you navigate your personal or professional transition.

For those of you interested in my credentials, please read on.

Therapy: Carolyn Mathews, PsyD, LMHC, is an integrative psychotherapist, who works with adults in transition. As a graduate of Argosy University with a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, Carolyn works with a broad spectrum of clients who are navigating or adjusting to complex life transitions and may be experiencing anxiety or depression. In addition, Carolyn specializes in working with those affected by cancer, (including patients, survivors, caregivers, family members and friends) --  known as psycho-oncology. Those who choose to work with Carolyn appreciate her direct and empathic approach, support, and sense of humor. She tailors her approach to each individual, calling on techniques from cognitive-behavioral, acceptance and commitment therapy, person-centered, and solution-focused therapies -- always focused on the needs of the client.

Coach: Carolyn is a Board Certified Coach (BCC) with a special designation in executive coaching and an MA in communications. She focuses on those encountering career transitions, from title or career changes to acquisitions and retirement. What makes her different from many other coaches? Carolyn offers a unique blend of over 25 years combined corporate and psychology experience. This combination allows her to capture and share the "psychology of business" with her clients.

Through her work in the corporate world and as a coach, both focused on executives and other leaders, Carolyn understands the complexities of the workplace and appreciates that each person faces unique challenges. Most of all, she recognizes that all people benefit from distinct solutions. This combination enables her to work well with a variety of people and understand the complexities of life in and out of the workplace. Indeed, as one who left the corporate world to pursue her degree as a "mature student," Carolyn possesses a sensitivity to those in midlife who are going through transitions.

Her top character strengths according to the VIA Survey, include: Critical Thinking, Love of Learning, Social Intelligence, Kindness, and Appreciation of Beauty & Excellence. In her personal time, Carolyn enjoys gardening, hiking, museums and reading. After many years, Carolyn recently bought a bicycle, and has found that it's true what they say about riding a bike.
Carolyn maintains a private practice in both Seattle and Bellingham, Washington.
